If you drove the mill from the other side, to keep turning the same direction, the tractor would have to be upside down. (imagine raising the tractor and belt and swinging thru 180* arc to the other side.)

The keeper towards the front of the tractor rubs slightly on the V portion of the belt the other I can slip a credit card between the keeper and the belt.
